Lilo Pelekai, a young Hawaiian girl, struggles with loneliness following both of her parent’s deaths. She lives with Nani who attempts to balance work and guardianship responsibilities. Although their relationship remains close enough that Nani does her best. But social services often evaluate Nani as providing stable living arrangements for Lilo.

Unbeknownst to Lilo, Stitch was actually hiding from intergalactic pursuers who seek him out and using Lilo as protection from capture – though Nani fears losing custody over Lilo due to Stitch’s destructive tendencies.
Lilo introduces Stitch to the Hawaiian concept of “Ohana” (meaning family). She teaches him about caring for each other as part of family – even if that means going against one’s beliefs at first. Gradually though, Stitch accepts and internalizes this philosophy of caregiving – eventually evolving from chaos into connection and taking ownership for his actions and changes his lifestyle drastically.
Nani struggles to maintain the family unit as she seeks stable employment while showing Cobra Bubbles that Lilo will be taken care of properly by Nani and Nana alone. But Stitch has other plans, causing further strain in an already delicate situation.
