The Trio Is Back: Stree 2 Trailer Analysis, Review And Some Spoiler Talk!
Introduction
One of the most anticipated Hindi movies of 2024, “Stree 2,” has just dropped its first official trailer. The Three Musketeers of Chanderi Village are back to thrill you with yet another ghostly problem, but this time it is the women, not the men, who have been abducted for mysterious reasons. Our beloved Vicky, Bittu, and Jaana are here once again to solve the mysterious occurrence with the guidance of Rudra. After the moderate success of Bhediya (2022) and the huge banger Munjya (2024), Maddock films are wasting no time to expand their Supernatural Universe. Amar Kaushik is yet again directing this venture, luring the mysteries of Indian folklore with light-hearted comedy and social commentary. Watch the latest trailer of Stree 2.
The Plot
The Village of Chanderi is facing another problem, as women have been abducted by a new ghostly menace. The trio Vicky, Bittu, and Jaana are the only keys to this solution. They have played a major role in the prequel “Stree” (2018). The mystery woman of Vicky’s life yet again comes to help them solve the newly occurring mystery! Whether she is just being a good friend or she has some malevolent intentions, we just have to wait until August 15, 2024, until the film is released.
Returning Cast
As the film is a direct continuation of its first predecessor, all the actors, including Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurana, and Abhishek Banerjee, are going to reprise their respective roles. But as the “Stree” franchise is part of an extended film universe, especially the film Bhediya, we may see a cameo by Varun Dhawan in the upcoming movie. Other than that, Tamannaah Bhatia is going to play an extended cameo role in this film.
Exploring The Indian Folklore
Dinesh Vijan and Maddock films played an important role, exploring and retelling the local Indian folklore, especially after the success of the first Stree film under the Maddock Supernatural Universe. Naleba, a famous folklore of Karnataka, was a huge inspiration for that film, while this time around the film makers were exploring the folklore of Bengal. Skondhokata or Sarkate, a prolific figure in Indian folklore, is going to be the key villain. Maddock films never hesitate to show their audience the grass-roots folk tales that were once becoming obsolete among the younger generations. Their previous ventures like Munjya and Bhediya are some prime examples where the makers tried to promote the folklore of India to the generation that is getting detached from Grandma’s scary tales.
Much Hyped Yet Surprised Cameo (Potential Spoiler)
Since the release of the first promo of “Stree2,” there has been a circulating rumour that an “A Lister” star is going to be a part of this new film, and as it turned out to be Akshay Kumar, fans are speculating that he is going to play the role of Dr. Aditya Shrivastav from the horror-comedy classic Bhool Bhulaiyaa, which was directed by Priyadarshan and was initially released on October 12, 2007. But what if Akshay Kumar plays more of a sinister than a hero? The new trailer for “Stree 2” gives us the first glimpse of Sarkate, and avid film buffs find a striking resemblance between the CGI floating head and the star.
Our Opinion
Though the trailer promises a fun rollercoaster ride, the main drawback is that it reveals too much about the film’s plot. This creates a negative impression in terms of the box office and keeps the plot safe until its release. Some of the gags feel forced, especially some of the parts of Rajkummar Rao where he looks more like an actor than the character. A key reason for which we enjoyed the first film is that all the actors were so infested with the film that the characters became a part of our hearts, and we became part of Chanderi Village. This time, it feels more like a horror comedy movie that we are eagerly waiting to see. Lastly, Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K. (famously known as Raj and DK) are no longer associated with the new film. Raj & D, known for cult classics like “Go Goa Gone,” were the writers behind the first part of this successful franchise, but due to some creative differences, Maddock Films and Raj & DK parted ways, creating their legacy separately. Niren Bhatt, the writer of “Stree 2,” has some big shoes to fill regarding keeping the legacy of this franchise.
Conclusion
The resurgence of encrypting Indian folklore in Indian cinema has increased the potential success of the film “Stree 2.” While the trailer has some drawbacks, it is always hard to speculate until and unless it is available in the public domain. Hence, the new trailer for this horror comedy film (a part of the extended film universe) looks promising, and the audience can’t wait to find out what is going to happen in Chanderi Village next!
