Black Myth: Wukong, developed by “Game Science,” a relatively new gaming company in terms of game production, is the new talk of the town, especially in the world of the gaming industry. It took the company to almost bankruptcy, but “Wukong” was their last hope! Their new release, “Black Myth: Wukong,” managed to sell over 10 million copies in just three days, surpassing previous records of Elden Ring and PalWorld on Steam.

After a long time, Black Myth: Wukong delivers a classic RPG gameplay vibe with its mythical tales derived from the ancient Chinese novel Journey to the West. Wukong game review reveals how this fictional sequel to the legendary tale immerses players into a world where, after the tragic defeat by the gods of heaven, Wukong’s soul is preserved in six relics. The main protagonist, “The Destined One,” a clever prime ape of the monkey clan, embarks on a mission to revive the great monkey king. Players will face both new and old enemies from the novel, defeating bosses and completing side quests, evoking a true RPG experience.
While the journey to the West tells the story of a celestial monkey, Wukong, and how he becomes a great threat to all the gods and demons with his immortal powers and “jin gu bang,” a holy staff with enormous energy. The makers of Black Myth incorporated the ancient tale with its direct continuation in their new game. After completing the task of collecting the holy scrolls from India and spreading the teachings of Buddhism along the way, Wukong and his friends gained “Buddha hood,” an immortal godlike status from the great Buddha, but some of the gods of the high council were still afraid of the monkey king and wanted to see him serving them. They declared a fight and managed to defeat him with cheating and conspiracy. Wun Kong’s soul is now trapped in six relics. As the game progress and comes to it end, it is reviled that the “Destined One” is a reincarnation of Sun Wukong and must collect all the five relics (sixed relic being himself) to gain all the powers of the unsung warrior.
One of the main reasons for Black Myth: Wukong’s huge success is for its epic boss battles. The game gives a nostalgic vibe of the classic RPG games of the 2000’s era, where gamers had to defeat big bad baddies to go to the next level. While the game has only four chapters, it is filled with over 97 characters where the gamer has to defeat all of them to become the new “Monkey King.” There are 11 bosses in the first chapter, 17 on the second, 22 on the third, and 18 on the final chapter, making it a roller-coaster ride for the gamers who are playing the game for the first time.
While the game is getting worldwide praise from the gaming community for its gameplay ability upgrades and boss battles, the conclusion of the game made some gamers disappointed. As the game comes to an end, the new incarnation of Wukong has to again live his life sealed under a boulder, just like his previous life (a given curse by Buddha before the journey to the west). This conclusion leads the gameplay to nowhere, and the entire struggle leads to a sadistic seldom. But if the gamer manages to complete the entire game with all the side quests and full power upgrades, the ending adds a new gameplay chapter, ‘Mount May,’ where the gamer can find an old enemy, Erlang Shen, and the four heavenly kings at the top of the mountain. If the player manages to defeat all of them, Erlang Shen gifts his divine weapon, ‘Sanjian Liangren Qiang,’ to the new Monkey King. The developers made multiple endings to mock the gamers who speed-run the game just to reach its conclusion. Fans are speculating that the alternative tale of the journey to the west from the eyes of the new Wukong can bring up some new tales in its potential sequel or future updates.
